Global Issues Paper

Hey guys,
So this week in Dr. D’s class we have been working on our global issues paper. We have been going to the writing lab everyday, giving us the opportunity to work on it in class and ask her any questions. Unlike our literary analysis paper, I actually feel very confident about the outcome of this paper. When we wrote our literary analysis, I had difficulties form the beginning.  It was my first time writing a paper with that style, and I had no clue where to start. Even by my final draft, I wasn’t pleased about the outcome. I was glad to move on to our next paper and have a fresh start.
For my paper, I chose to write about the lives and affects of child soldiers in Africa. I like how we were able to chose a topic, and take the time to research it. It makes it a lot easier to write about something when you have interest in it.  I already feel like I know exactly what I am going to write and how it is going to be organized. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Can't Wait to Drive!

This Friday, my friends and I wanted to go to dinner, a movie, go out for ice cream, and finish the night off with laser tag. Sounds like a fun night, right? The only problem was, it was too difficult for our parents to continue to drive us all across town. Instead, our night consisted of dinner and a movie, at home. I can’t wait till I can drive.
Every since I was ten, my mom has said how much her life will be easier when I am able to drive. At one point, my sister, my brother, and I all went to different schools, and then all had different activities after school that we all had to get to. My mom was constantly on the road, carpooling kids all around town. Now that my sister and I go to the same school, it has definitely made it easier, but there are also all of our weekend plans that always make things difficult. Oh well, only eight more months of this driving inconvenience!

Awkward

Ok be honest, who watches Awkward?
Awkward is about social outcast, Jenna Hamilton, going through the ups and downs of high school. The show starts off with Jenna beginning sophomore year. As though being a social outcast wasn’t enough, she walks into the first day of school with a cast covering her entire right arm and a neck brace. Rumors begin to spread about her accident, and she becomes the talk of the whole school. But Jenna doesn’t want to go through high school being known as “that girl”. She struggles to make something of herself and become more than what the rumors are making her.
One of my friends introduced me to Awkward towards the end of the first season, and I have been obsessed ever since. I caught up on every episode from season one, and I have been dying for season two to finally premier. Jenna’s life might make the show seem sad, but it is actually a comedy T.V. show. It basically makes fun of the “typical” lives of high schoolers today. All of the characters of the show are absolutely hilarious and each episode is filled with surprises in Jane’s life. I would recommend this show to any teenage girl who loves to laugh. Season Two primers this summer so ketch up on season one now!

Sweet Little Lies

Hey guys,
If you have been reading my blogs, you know that I have been reading the L.A. Candy series by Lauren Conrad. Throughout this story, we discover more and more about Jane Robert’s life as a reality T.V. star. Jane and her best friend since kindergarden, Scarlett Harp, moved to L.A. to go to school at USC and work for L.A.’s most famous event planner, Fiona Chen. They never thought that their lives would become one of the number one show on T.V. Jane, Scarlett, and the other two co-stars, Gabby Garcia and Madison Parker, followed around by cameras as they go to school, work, and the hottest Hollywood parties.
On my plane ride home from Atlanta for a gymnastics meet, I finished reading the second book in the series, Sweet Little Lies. In this book, Jane finally discovers that her “friend” Madison has been spilling all of her secrets to the publicity to get herself a spot in the limelight. At the same time, she is struggling with a painful breakup with her boyfriend, and has lost her best friend since kindergarten through her T.V. drama. Jane is beginning to have second thoughts about being on T.V., and with the season finally right around the corner, Jane has to quickly decide on wheather or not she will commit to another season. I am beginning to read the third book of the series, so I will continue to keep you posted about Jane’s relationships and all the celebrity drama.

Disney Movie Magic

This weekend, my friends and I went to go see Beauty and the Beast in 3D. We expected to be the oldest ones there, not counting the parents forced to go because of their children. We were surprised to see the theater overflowing with people of all ages. I suppose everyone was excited to see one of their childhood movies back on the big screen. Right when the movie began, Disney movie magic took over the crowd. Everyone began to sing the words to “Bonjour” in unity. It made me realize that Disney movies make memories that you will never forget.
When my sister and I were younger, we would watch Cinderella at least twice a day. I will never forget how we would dance around, wearing our Cinderella gowns, singing the words to every song. Even till this day, my sister reminds me of how I used to beg my mom for a pet mouse, so I could be just like Cinderella. I hope to see Cinderella back in theaters soon. But remember, no matter how old you are, you are never too old for Disney.

California Girl

This week, I continued reading about Jane Robert’s life as being a reality T.V. star in Sweet Little Lies, by Lauren Conrad. Jane came to L.A. to work with famous event planner, Veronica Bliss. She had no intentions of being on T.V. Now, she is Hollywood’s new “It Girl”. The show features Jane and her co-stars, Madison, Gaby, and Scarlett running around L.A. and going to the hottest celebrity parties. The more I read about Jane’s daily routines, the more I want to live in L.A.
Since I little, I have always wanted to go to college out of state. I want to explore the world on my own, and live somewhere else for a change. The first time I went to Los Angelus, I completely fell in love! The weather is always perfect and there is never a dull moment in the city. I hope attend UCLA, and have the experience of being a California girl!

New Year Resolutions

Christmas is over and 2012 has begun, it's time to go back to school. It's a new year with a fresh start in English. Although I did well last semester, I want to try to make this semester less stressful.
My main English New Year Resolution is to manage my time. Last semester I spent most of my Sundays doing all of my weekly work that needed to be turned in that Monday. Since my gymnastics competition season is starting, I am going to be doing a lot of traveling and not having very much time on the weekends for school work. I need to use my time wisely and take my study hall more seriously. Hopefully I will stick to this method and get all of my work done.
